Welcome to the latest resource in our home learning series. English Track Level F Sheet 6 — Read a chapter extract and analyse the protagonist is designed to help your Year 5 child move beyond simple comprehension and into the world of literary analysis.
In this lesson, your child will read an engaging, original story extract featuring our friend Leo the lion. By focusing on his actions, dialogue, and thoughts, your child will learn to identify character traits and explain how an author creates a believable personality. English Track Level F Sheet 6 — Read a chapter extract and analyse the protagonist fits perfectly into our Level F progression, building upon the literal understanding skills mastered in earlier sheets by introducing the concept of inference.
Once your child has mastered this sheet, they will be able to provide evidence from a text to support their opinions about a character’s motivations and feelings. This is a vital skill for meeting the expected standards in the Year 5 reading curriculum. We have included five to seven questions that encourage your child to look closely at the text, ensuring they feel confident and capable.
